Transcriber's notes

[the bottom right corner of the page is torn- partly obscuring the year of the crime, which is wrong in any case]

Kenneth Leal, messenger in Elgin, indicted for robbing the Elgin mail in December last
was found guilty by the jury unanimously and sentenced to be hanged on 7th July 1773 [not 1793]
between Elgin and Fochabers, near Janet Innes's Cairn, the place where he robbed the mail
and his body to be hung in chains.
