the remains of a Druidical Temple. In a piece of soft moss ground,
on the burgie estate, a number of ancient querns were found, probably
hid there, when multures and thirlage were enforced by law, and the
use of quern forbidden. ............................................................................. -- no information regarding these can be obtained

Altyre was formerly a district parish, belonging to the parsonage of
Dallas, and was annexed to Rafford by Act of Parliament 1661.
The walls of the old church remainentire, which till of late, that ................ -- Church written
Mr Cumming erected a new tomb, had been the burying place of his
ancestors time out of mind.

The Cummings of Logie, who are a
branch of this family, and most of the ancient residenters, still continue
to bury here. the family seat is an old plain building, with two neat mo- .... -- this is taken from Old Stat [Statistical] Account
dern Wings, and though well fitted up and commodious, is not suitable
to that style displayed by its ingenious owner everywhere around it.
For some time, Colonel Cumming has resided with his family, in
Tarres, where he has a fine house and considerable property.

There is a hill at Altyre which still goes by the name of the
Gallow Hill where, in former times, the sentences passed at the ............... -- Gallow Hill written (natural feature)
Baron Court of Altyre were executed.
There is no market town in the parish, and no village of any size
Forres is the nearest market and Post town
There are 4 schools in the parish, one parochial and endowed, and

Two fairs annually are held withing the parish, one in April ........................ -- Only one fair is held now at the Moor Granary in the

the Superintendent of Examiners will supply all the local
information he can obtain, and state what steps he has
taken to obtain such information.
