010.08 | There are now no remains of this important structure which can be traced in History as far back as 966 when King Duffus was murdered there. There is a slope apparently artificial forming three sides of a parallelogram, which where the surface is broken exhibits the appearance of lime and stone as if there had been a wall, but whether it is anything in connection with the Ancient Castle or forms part of the later "Sheriff's House" which formerly stood here there is no evidence to show. I attach a cutting in the name sheet taken from the Forres Gazette of the 27th May 1868, written by the Editor Mr. Miller who is a local Antiquarian; it contains a very good condensed history of the Castle from A.D. 966 |
