011.10 This is a large stone lying on the surface of the ground, near one of the Upper Califer farm houses, which was formerly used as a place of rendevouze by the town councillors of Forres, after 'riding the marches of the parish', which was done, after the election of a new provost The practice of riding the marches is now discontinued, and the stone has lately been much lessened in size, by the present tenant of Upper Califer, who broke of part for building purposes
