(As this well is known and written as "Mary Well" that mode of writing has been adopted in preference to "St Mary's Well" which is not now the designation of it). |

Mary Well is the name by which it is commonly known in the Town, but the Authorities
agree to the original name St. Mary's Well been written, for if a stranger asked for
St. Mary's Well this well would be shown to him although now called Mary Well.
