These works are immediately opposite the Elgin Tan Works at the North end of Lossie Wynd but are not of such extent nor importance as the latter - Property of Alexander Culbard - (These tan works were originally the property of one person & both were designated by the name of "Elgin Tan Works" but on the property changing hands each was distinguished by the names given on trace.)

A large handsome building of three storeys, with two conservatories, one on each end, and extensive gardens & grounds attached. Situated at the east end of the city. It is the jointure residence of the Countess of Seafield and the entrance is from North College Street, at the Cathedral, where an elegant lodge for the gatekeeper is erected.

The names of these two Tanneries were referred but as the signboard of one
and the Door Plate of the other, and the two proprietors write Tan Works in
the names and not Tannery it was adopted.
