"The Dorbac or Dorback flows from the Lake Lochendorb and forms a part of the Southern boundary of the Parish, and situated about midway betwixt the Sourse of the Divie and where the Findhorn enters this Parish. Like the Divie, it has the whole of its course within this parish, which is about 7. miles when it unites with and loses its name in that River, about
¾ of a mile below the Church. and three miles from its junction with the Findhorn"-
Copied from the Ph. [Parish] Statistics, written by the Ph. [Parish] Minister Rev [Reverend] Mr Farries dated 1842.- The name, it is supposed, derived from the word 'Dorbh' after the name of its sourse The Lake which in its Gaelic Garb is "Loch an Dùirbh" ie. Lake of the hand-line (for fishing) River or Amhainn Doirbeag River of Small fish or minnows |

This ruin is situated on an island in Lochindorb, and judging from its natural position and the appearance of what now remains of it, it must have been a place of great strength, nothing now however remains except its walls, which are standing in some places to a height of nearly 20 Feet, and are several feet in thickness, nothing can be ascertained as to the date of its erection, It is the property of the Earl of Seafield.
The celebrated Castle or Fort of Lochindorb is the only other antiquity of note in the parish. The Castle is built on an

island in a large lake of that name, distant about 7 or 8 miles north of Castle Grant, The island is fully more than a Scotch acre in extent, and every part of it is occupied by the castellated wall, in many places 20 feet high, and supposed to have been much higher. According to Mr. Shaw in his history of the Province of Moray, when the Earl of March defeated and killed the Earl of Athol at Kilblair in 1335 and raised the Seige of Kildrummie Castle, The Earl of Athol's lady fled to the Castle of Lochindorb, Sir Alexander Gordon laid seige to it, but next year he was obliged to raise the Seige. The Castle and adjacent grounds belong to the Earl of Seafield,

This name applies to a Cairn of Stones, erected by a man named James Roy, who was evidently a half wit. According to report the Said James Roy, had risen one night to look at the state of the weather, and seeing the moon's reflection in some water, and thinking this something out of the ordinary run of things. He climbed the hill and built the Cairn, to commemorate the event, and it Still stands as a monument of his folly. |
