The Parish of Birnie is in the presbytery of Elgin and synod of Moray. Patron the Earl of Moray. It is bounded on the north by the Parish of Elgin, on the west by the Parish of Dallas, on the East by the Parishes of Elgin and Rothes and on the South by the Parish of Rothes. The Parish of Birnie is situated
in the County of Elgin and contains about 6828 statute acres, the Parish Church is in the North West point of the Parish. There are no detached portions of the Parish
of Birnie in this or any other County neither are there detached portions of any other parish within its limits. The soil of the greater portion of the Parish is of a mossy nature, not quite half of the Parish is under cultivation. |

Name of one of the parish antiquities which was formerly a large cairn of Stones The most of the Cairn having been carried away, many years ago, for building purposes The remains are small boulders Still forming the base of the pile and abt [about] 2 or 3 feet in height, a portion of the ground surface in the interior where the cairn stood having been explored, but no relic has been found. situated about 15 Ch [chains] S.S.E. [South South East] of Hill Head Trig [Trigonometrical] Station and in the plantation and about 9 Ch [chains] N.W. [North West] of the S.E. L [South East Line] of said plantation also a few yards S. [South] of a junction of road in the wood. The Cairn is looked upon as great antiquity by the natives of the district, and is classed by tradition as a Danish Battle Cairn.
