A large building 3 Stories high ornamented with two open towers and a handsome Grecian portico in front. This building was erected in 1832 at an expense of £16000. Orphan children from any part of Scotland are admitted recommended by a member the number of inmates at present are 95 a good plain education is given to both sexes and the girls are exercised in the domestic duties of the house to train them for servants. This institution owes its origin to Andrew Gardener merchant in Edinburgh who was treasurer to the Trinity Hospital having collected by Subscription £218 a house was hired in 1773 & 20 children admitted after which it has progressed to its present state.
