[Situation] About 19 chains E. [East] of East Pier
A circular tower situated at the extremity of the East Pier. It forms part of the fortification designed for the protection of the town & shipping of Leith and is capable of containing a number of soldiers. The platform on the top had carriages & fixtures requisite of three swivel guns. It was built from plans furnished by Col. [Colonel] Jones RE. [Royal Engineers]
