022 ; 023 |
An ancient encampment, situated on a commanding eminence, called "Mid Hill", on the farm of "Corsehope", in a good state of preservation. There is no well founded tradition in the neighbourhood respecting it. Mr Simpson P. [Parish] Schoolmaster of heriot thinks it is of Danish construction. Its shape is irregular. Some of the shepherds of the Place Call it Roman, and Mr Smith P. [Parish] Minister of Heriot says it is very probable that it is of Roman construction, although its shape is different from what they generally are. |
