024.02 | "There also existed at some very remote period, a strong military position or encampment at the junction of the Avon and Cander Waters, still known by the name of Double Dykes, which comprises anulytent betwixt three and four acre of land, surrounded on all sides by high perpendicular rocks re" New Statistical Account. The remains of this camp or entrenchment appears on the ground as unpresented on examination trace. The embankments are covered by small thorn bushes, and gaps have been made through them, at various periods, by the farmer. "Double Dykes" is the name it is best known by among the country people, and may, upon the same authoritical, be given to the camp.
