Its banks are generally wooded - bed rocky - passes the village of Lesmahagow and through several large bridges, one of these - a railway viaduct of 130 ft in height and a short distance before its final junction with the Clyde flows past at the base of a line of cliffs - freestone - which reach the elevation of 300 ft.

Weir 031 The portion of the River Clyde which forms the Western boundary of Lesmahagow Ph [Parish] extends from the junction of Douglas Water to a farmsteading named Threepwood, a distance on nine miles, and proba [probably ?] by the most picturesque part of its long course. In this distance it falls over the famous Linns of Bonn [Bonnington] Corra & Stonebyres, works the machinery of the large cotton mills of New Lanark, and washes the villages of Kirkfieldbank Hazelbank & Crossford. From Bonniton to Corra Linn it is enclosed within cliffs of old red sandstone beyond this its banks are covered with large woods & rich orchards It is crossed by a large bridge at Crossford & another at Kirkfieldbank and a small iron bridge connects the Lanark side of the river with an island in the centre of Bonniton fall.

Weir 032.03 This is the middle one of the famous linns of Clyde; consists of two distinct falls, a few yards apart, the uppermost about 30 ft in height the lower about 38. A short distance above the Linn the water, when not swollen by rain, is confined within a narrow chasm of scarcely twelve feet in width. Rushing through this rapid it soon reaches the first fall, on the face of which it is broken into a cloud of foam. From this point it is driven over an abrupt rugged bed to the last & highest fall which traverses the entire breadth of the river; from the summit of which it plunges into a broad deep caldron enclosed by high cliffs of the old red sandstone
