017.08 | These comprise the whole of the policies of the high grounds of Hamilton, enclosed by a wall about 10 feet high. They extend from "Old Avon Bridge" in the north (xviii-1 Trace 4) to the Lands of "High & Laigh Quarter" in the South (xviii-9 Trace 4-5); & from "High Merryton" in the east (xviii-9 Trace 3) to "Low Waters" in the west (xvii-8 Trace 2). There are several Parks, within the "High Parks", bearing names like those of an ordinary estate. The "Avon Water" & "Meikle Burn" flow through. "Chatelherault", the remains of "Cadzow Castle", the "old oaks" of the "Caledonian Forest" in which the celebrated White Cattle browze, & "Belvidere Plantation", are within the "High Parks". There are several Lodge Gates at different parts of the wall enclosing the policies. The Low Parks of Hamilton are separated from these by the Lands of "Barncluith" - on xvii-4 Trace 6 & xviii-1 Trace 4. |
