017.04 An old house occupied by a number of poor families. Dr. [Doctor] Fairbairn informs me that it was built by the Duchess Anne about the middle of the 17th century as an Hospital, and had been occupied as such till about the beginning of the 18th century when it became disused as an Hospital, and ever since it has been occupied as a dwelling house. There are still 6 or 7 old individuals who receive about £8 per annum from the House of Hamilton in lieu of a house rent, who reside where they choose

Dr. [Doctor] Fairbairn was the only person I could find to give me information respecting the above names. It so happens that William Henderson, Town Clerk & Francis Hamilton Esq. are confined very poorly to their beds. D.H.
This Hospital is not noticed in the history of Hamilton House or Palace.
