Cairncockle (continued) XXIV - II Trace 1

This name is well known in the Parish as applying to the highest spot in Dalserf, but the remains of the Cairn have never been seen by the oldest resident in the locality - Mr J Watson of Burnhead, who has been there nearly 90 years. Since hollow places resembling Land-holes, as stated by Mr Watson, were seen near the top of it before the Plantation was made. There are no appearances now of any ditch or fortification around this feature, which is as irregular in form as the sketch in Examination Trace shows it. Half the distance between the top & bottom is sketched. The name is written on the top, or level - at the top. It does not appear to have been artificial.
