A parish in the North of Lanarkshire containing about 14000 acres. The principal villages in it, are Bishop-Briggs, Auchenairn, Cadder, Chryston & Moodiesburn. "The Forth & Clyde Canal runs through the parish for 5 miles in a line nearly parallel with the Kelvin. There are a number of Freestone quarries in the parish, vast quantities of whin: rock & inexhaustible Limestone" Gazetteer of Scotland.
