A Small hill on the farms of Viewfield [-?] & Fintloch the Surfac[e] of which is partly heathy. And partly Arable land. On it is a Trigl. [Trigonometrical] Station Called by Trigl. [Trigonometrical] Par[ty] "Viewfield" Mr Cannon of Shie[l?] a very intelligent man besides a[n] old residenter of this Neighbourhood Says that about 40 Year[s] ago an Old Corn Kiln was bu[ilt?] on this, which probably is the Origin of the name Kiln hill

A Small portion of ground of about 1/4 of [an acre?] in Content. Supposed to have been a place of interment. previous to the present grave yard being used John Muir &. the Rev. [Reverend] James Maitland Says that it is handed down by tradition that human bones and handles of Coffins had been found in it whilst a ploughing down by a former farmer. -

[Note] Diligent enquiry has been made Concerning this object & Most of the intelligent inhabitants of the locality Concur in Saying that it had been a Churchyard or Graveyard &. many Consider it to have been the Site of the Parish church; but from the Circumstance of human bones &. fragments of Coffins been found there Can be no doubt but it was a Grave yard Abridged from a Correspondence By Capt. [Captain] Mechan R. S. [&.?] M.
