A portion of rocks on the farm of "Stroan" having very little herbage Amongst them, Situated near the eastern base of "Benyellary". They consist of rough tumbling rocks having a rugged or scabbed appearance hence the name.

013 [Situation] Running in a Southerly direction & joins Buchan Burn contiguous to Craignine.
A tolerably sized mountain stream gathering on the south side of the "Merrick" And flowing in a S. [South] Easterly direction through the farm of "Stroan" to its influx into "Buchan Burn". Mr Wilson says "it has taken its name from the dark gloomy place through which it flows.
