012 | A considerable River having its source in Loch Moan and flowing in a southerly direction receiving all the superfluent water for miles on each side of its course, besides several large streams and the RiverMinnock and discharges itself into Wigtown bay at Creetown, for about12 Miles from its source, it wends it's way through Morasses, and heathy flats, it then forms into a loch about two miles in length, and about 8 chains in breadth (generally known as the Loch of cree) from thence its course is rapid over shallows & rocks. as far as Newtown Stewart . to which place the tide flows from Wigtown Bay, from here to it's influx with the sea its course is very serpentine through a large tract of flat land consisting of arable and [continued] |
