A considerable sized stream rising by the confluence of a few small streams on the farms of Knockstig and Troston, it forms the boundary between the counties of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright, its course is very oblique taking a direction to the S. E. [South East] until its influx with with Black mark Burn, then they obtain the name of Cairn Water, it is picturesque passing through precipitous Glens covered with wood which renders the Scenes romantic
