009 An old dike or rampart,Commencing at Loch Ryan on the West And ending at the Solway Frith, on the East. It crosses Gallowayshire for about 50 Miles. It appears to have been erected for the purpose of a boundary or Some Such line of demarcation, but tradition and history are both Silent about its use or date of erection. After entering Kirkcudbright Shire it is very visible on the farm of 'Dranandow' thence into Glenshallock, 'Craignell' Craigenbay,' 'Drumbuie' 'Stranfasket' And next appears on KnocKreoch farm Continues thro [through] said farm And crosses Pulmaddy Burn And enters Barlae Farm but only 2 Small portions of it is visible on this farm.
Note Mr Train of Castle Douglas (An Antiquary of Some Note) Says that it Crosses near the old 'Bridge of Deuch' Crosses thro' [through] the farm of MarsKaig Auchenshinnoch, etc etc. he also States that it is invariably 8 feet wide at the base with a fosse at its Northern or inland Side this Statement of his is not true in all parts.
