054 | A large Rock Situated in Kirkcudbright Bay convenient to its Western Coast inside Low Water At Low Spring Tides it Can be Forded - and at the same time several Minor Rocks can be seen on its Southern Side - Mr John Neil Says that it is Traditionally handed down of French Pirates having robbed Senwick Church - without being detected but a Storm arising immediately after they had put to Sea - the Ship dashed upon the above Rock, and every person on Board perished. In memory of this event the Rock has ever since been known as the Frenchmans Rock |
