050 The ruins of an ancient Church with a grave yard attached, surrounded by a thriving plantation, and has a very sequestered appearance, the ancient wall of the graveyard is much dilapidated but still exibits its former boundaries It is on the farm of High Banks, and situated on a little eminence about 1/4 of a Mile to the south of the above farm house. The church seems to have been but small, as the remains of the walls are only about 30 ft in length by 15 in breadth. Close to the south side of the ruins is a tomb or sepulchre belonging to one Lidderdale, The graveyard is still used by a few of the more ancient inhabitants of its locality, in its Eastern Corner are three tabulated monumental stones, 2 of which covering the dust of 2 daughters of Dunbar Earl of Selkirk & the other to the Memory of Catharine, daughter of Sir George Hume Baronet, the Oldest Monument in the cemetery is one within the tomb or sepulchre covering the dust of Thomas Ledderdale of St Mary's Isle who died 10th February 1687. Galtway anciently was a parish of itself but in 1663 was united with the parish of Kirkcudbright. It is both traditionally & historically handed down that a village formerly had stood convenient to it but now no trace of can be found.
