A handsome building of the Modern Style of Architecture erected in the year 1800 at a cost of about £1000 by the burgh of Kirkcudbright, the lower apartments are chiefly used as offices by the Magistrates & Council of the town & the Upper floor used as the Court room which is lighted with gas, furnished and fitted up in an elegant style. It is situated in High St. and annexed to the Jail. -

050 [Situation] On the West side of Castle St. & near the Central part of the town. A moderate Sized house occupied as post office for the last 25 years. The penny posts of Dundrennan Tynholm Borgue & Ringford are Subordinate to this office, letters are received from & despatched to them twice a day. The Irish & Wigtownshire Mail arrives here in the forenoon and the English Glasgow & Edinburgh arrives in the afternoon. For particulars see forms 136
