008 | [Situation] 2 Miles N.W by W [North West by West] of Loch Harrow. A large Mountain of high elevation or a range of hills & is part of the farms of Castlemaddy and Lochhead, its surface consists of rocky pasture, its Eastern & Western sides are very precipitous and are respectively called Castlemaddy Gairy &. Loch Head Gairy. On the summit of this Mountain is an ancient cairn or tumulus, from which the hill took the name, and in the centre of the Cairn is a Trigl. [Trigonometrical] Station called by Trigl. [Trigonometrical] Party "Carlins Cairn" |
