043; 049 | [Situation] Running S.S.E [South South East] and passing between Castramont Wood and Glassnoch Wood. Forming the boundary between Anwoth & Girthon. A Small river having two headwaters one of which issuing from Loch Fleet called the Little "Water of Fleet", and the other taking its rise at the base of Cairnsmore, is called the Meikle Water of Fleet, both these rivers runs nearly in a Southerly direction for a distance of about 7 or 8 Miles and unites near a place called Castramont, thence it is called the "Water of Fleet" and runs thro' a picturesque valley well studded with plantations houses &c., and runs into Wigtown Bay about 3 Miles below the town of Gatehouse, It is navigable for vessels of 200 tons burthen nearly as far up as Gatehouse. |
