yet it is of difficult derivation. I would be inclined to
think it is of Saxon origin, (Eld,rig i.e. the old ridge)
but it occurs very frequently where the Gaelic is now spoken
In Sinclair's Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account] The minister of the parish of Blair Athol and Strowan Says "Elrig i.e.
"Iaoth leirg or the enclosed field. the field of a multitude or of Danger, the meaning intended probably is the
"surrounded or enclosed field. There are many places of this name amongst our hills. Their Situation is a
"rising ground and open and pretty plain
"hill around it" &c &c
Dibbin Lane - Dib. A small pool of rain-water
Dibin probably a dim. [diminutive] of dib.
