Till 1829 it was broad enough to allow machines to cross, but being swept away by a flood in that year, this one was erected to supply it place _ "The bridges are in good repair, but inconsiderable inconvenience is felt from the loss of one by the great flood of 1829, on the line of road across the Cairn."
