"The ancient name of this Parish was Conveth, but in the course of last Century it came to be known only by the name of Laurencekirk, originally applicable only to the Kirk-town, and derived from the dedication of the Church to St. Laurence.
The parish extends in length from West by South to East by North about 4 miles, varying in breadth from about 3 miles at the Western extremity to less than a mile at other, and contains about 8½ Square Miles. It is situated in the Howe of the Mearns, the Eastern part of the Great Valley of Strathmore, and is bounded on the South-west by Marykirk, on the South-east by Garvock, and on the North-east and North-west by Fordoun. The boundary with Garvock is Somewhat indistinct following the line
