020.09 | Kirktown of Fordoun consists principally of the Church, the Churchyard, the Manse, and the Village Inn. It is romantically situated upon the eastern slope of the hill of Strathfinella, overhanging the Mountain Stream of the Luther. It is 5 Miles north-north-east of Laurencekirk and shares closely in the advantages of Auchinblae. "The Kirkton of Fordoun can scarcely be called a Village, for, beside the Manse and Schoolhouse, it can boast of only the neat and rural Fordoun Inn, and two or three additional Cottages." (New Stat. Acct [New Statistical Account]) This is the proper Village of Fordoun in which are the Parish Church and Manse, the Houses near the Railway Station to which the name of Fordoun is now applied have been built since the Railway Station was erected there. |
