Valuation Roll 1862-63
019.11 "At a later date Sir John Gladstone bought the lands of Phesdo, Auchcairnie and Pitnamoon. All these lands lay in the immediate Vicinity of the Old Palace of Kincardine, and soon after Bruce ascended the throne, he gave six acres of arable land in the tenement of Auchcairnie, "adjoining to our Manor of Kincardine", to his faithful follower, Sir Alexander Fraser of Cowie and Kinnell. Phesdo or as anciently written Fas-dauche of Phesdo (i.e. the arable land or davoch in the forest) lies close to the palace and about the same time as Frazer acquired the acres alluded to, Bruce gave the temporalities of Phesdo to the "Abbey of Arbroath". (Land of the Lindsays). The present mansion house of Phesdo is a good substantial building of Granite, and the two wings and Court Yard are on the Site of the Old House of Phesdo of which no part now remains. There is a good Kitchen Garden and pleasure grounds attached to the house but the walks &c are very much neglected. The House is not occupied. Proprietor Sir Thomas Gladstone Bart [Baronet]
