The parish of Urquhart and Glenmoriston is in the Presbytery of Abertarff, Synod of Glenelg. It is bounded on the east by Loch Ness which separates it from the parishes of Dores, and Boleskine and Abertarff; on the south by the parishes of Boleskine and Abertarff, and Kilmonivaig; on the west by the parish of Glenshiel in the County of Ross; and on the north by the parish of Kiltarlity and Convinth. There are no detached portions of the parish and there is no detached portion of any other parish situated within it.

It is said to be nearly 200 fathoms deep in some parts, and very deep throughout and has never been known to have been frozen. For its whole length it is used in connection with the Caledonian Canal and it is navigable for vessels drawing a deep draught of water. This loch is wholly situated in the district of Glen Albyn, and in the parishes of Dores, Inverness, Urquhart & Glenmoriston, and Boleskine & Abertarff; but for about 5 miles north of Fortaugustus it is wholly in the latter parish.
