012 ; 013 | Situated on the north slope and near the east end of the ridge known as Drummossie Muir which rises rather abruptly from the River Nairn and falls gently towards the Moray Firth. The position that the front line of each army occupied when the battle began is shown on traces in yellow- the Royalists on the right, the Highlanders on the left. The Field presents a dreary appearance especially the lower part which is rather undulating and marshy evidently as it was on the 16th April, 1746, the day on which the battle was fought.
