051 [Situation] In the south end of Monikie Ph. [Parish]
The remains of this are now very slight consisting only of a portion of the foundation which can be distinctly seen, the shape of this forming two sides of a square would lead to the belief that this Castle was of the same construction as Auchinleck and Hynd Castles, although apparently larger. Three sculptured stones were dug from this place some time ago, undoubtedly the remains of the Chapel which has been within the building, two of these bear the initials, "I:H:S. (Jesus hominum salvator, Jesus saviour of man)" and a human heart pierced by three nails, the other "M.A.R. (Marie ave regina, hail Mary Queen",) The finest of these was found by Mr. Fullerton the present tenant, in the course of agricultural improvements. A door lintel in one of the cottages bears "C.I.C.P: 1688"(Countess Jean Campbell of Panmure) "D.I.A: 1625" is on another stone surmounted with a fleur-de-lis.
