051 | [Situation] About 18 chains N.N.E. [North North East] of Carlungie farm house On the summit of a mound situated at the eastern extremity of the Cur Hills, on the Farm of Carlungie, there has been found at various times stone coffins. This mound which is composed of Gravel and covered with broom appears to be artificial, as the surrounding land is of a rich productive soil. There are three holes in the ground where the coffins have been taken from, And the present tenant Mr. Anderson, says that there have been as many as eight coffins found there, but always containing nothing but gravel, which had fallen in between the stones, which are only rough slabs, laid together in the shape of a box. |
