New Stat [Statistical] Account Rev [Reverend] F. Cruikshanks James Mitchell, Teacher |
019 | A small circle, 30 links in diameter, supposed to be a Druidical remain, It is the most entire of any in the Parish, as, being situated in uncultivated ground, it has never been tampered with, It is slightly raised above the ground around it, and on it are a number of stones lying in all manner of positions; of those stones two are standing upright, and about 18 inches high, "There are the remains of two or three small Druidical temples... one at Blairno" New Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account] This object is of the class, and is in fact a Cairn set round with small standing stones. The numerous stones laying near show that it has been opened in the centre, with the probable intention of rifling the contents; and the consequent depression in the middle gives it a ring-like appearance. |
