031 | It was here [Court Hillock] where Courts of Justice were wont to be held, and the pool contiguous, (Mr Dixon says,) was where the criminals suffered. This pool is now used as a Mill dam or pond for the Meikle Mill "A little to the west of the town is a globular hillock, and contiguous to it, a circular pond evidently excavated to form the hillock. In a disposition to the Estate of Kinnordy by one of the Douglas family this hillock, which is called the Court Hillock, and a road to it is reserved (not now on the ground). The pond is commonly called the Witch Pool, and was lately converted into a reservoir for a Mill at the Gairie. Old Stat. [Statistical] Account. |
