HATTON SPINNING MILL (Flax) | Hatton Spinning Mill Hatton Spinning Mill Hatton Mill |
Mr. Cunningham Factor Mr Forbes Tenant Valuation Roll |
040 | A Farm Steading and a Spinning Mill separated by the distance of about 10 chains from each other. The Lessee of the Mill occupies the Farm Steading to which is attached a small farm. Some 60 hands, mostly women, are employed in the Mill in spinning flax into yarn - generally course or string yarn, ready for weaving. Usually this goes under the name of Hatton Mill, as it was, till recently, all included & held by the one Tenant in the western farm Ho [House] of Hatton Mill. The Proprietor's Agent is desirous of the distinction of Hatton "Spinning Mill" to it, & the steading held by the same person, which saves the repetition of a name properly applying to both of the present steadings on the lands of Hatton Mill. |
