An extensive Vale or lowland Country skirting the southern face of the Grampain Mountains and popularly regarded as consisting of the territory lying within these and the Sidlaw Hills upon the South, and extending from Methven in Perthsire to a point a little North east of Brechin. It is celebrated for its beauty, fertility and high state of cultivation as well as the prosperity of the numerous towns and villages which dot its surface, together with it possessing railway communication along its centre from east to west contributing largely to its commercial advantages. |

A range of hills extending in a south west and north east direction, and forming the southern side of the Vale of Strathmore. They extend across the County nearly due east till they meet the German Ocean at Redhead, and falling from their height, as they stretch in a westerly direction along the northern edge of the Carse of Gowrie, till they rise again suddenly in the hill of Kinnoull, which marks the western extremity of the range. Portions of it are covered with Fir Plantations and heathy pastures while parts of it are cultivated. |
