Dear Sir,
In regard to the spelling
of the name of this parish, there
can be no doubt the double "l" is
a very modern innovation - Our
Kirk Session Records are all in
the custody of the Registrar General
at present but I have all the Pres-
bytery Records beside me and
their authority as to usage is
perhaps of greater value. I have
before a Minute of Presbytery of
date 1836, in which Inverkeilor
is the spelling. On the tombstone
of the Revd [Reverend] Alexander Carnegie who died
in 1836 he is styled Minister of
