040 | A small village on the T.P. [Turn Pike] Road from Arbroath to Montrose. In it are a Ph. [Parish] & a Free Church, a parish school, Post Office, and Inn. The mode of spelling the name was formerly with one "l" but two of those letters are now invariably used in the name in the locality. The Minister however condemns "the present usage as a mere modern innovation." |

040 | An old building, in the village of Inverkeillor, the property of the Heritors of the Parish. It was built, according to Fullarton's Gazetteer, in 1735. It is supposed that a church stood here from earliest ages but there is no record to that effect. The North East end of the building is the Vault where the family of the Earls of Northesk are interred and is considerably older than the Parish Church. |
