039 [Situation] In the N.En. [North Eastern] district.
A considerable village, on the Eastern boundary of the Parish, it is laid out in regular streets & was formerly intended as a Borough Town. The principal trade is Weaving, which is carried on to a great extent. The Village boasts of a Public Hall & Public Library, Four places of Worship & 2 Schools. There are two Fairs held here Annually, one at the Martinmas term & the other at Whitsunday Term, they are chiefly for Hiring servants.
