The goods manufactured are Hessians &c & the machinary used for winding yarns & weaving is propelled by a Steam Engine of 16 Horse power There are about 70 persons employed & the proprietors are Messrs. Charles Lucas & Co. J. Cairncross Manager The factory is recently Constructed and one and two storeys high.

Webster Manager Dundee Directory 1856-7 054 [Situation] On the east side of Hillbank Road This Mill is situated between the Dens and Hillbank Roads and Consists of buildings for preparing and spinning Flax Flax tow and Jute into yarns which are woven into Hessians, Osnaburghs &c by hand and power looms in the adjoining rooms. The machinery is driven by two steam engines of 30 & 16 horse power respectively; there are about 270 persons Employed and the proprietor is Mr. Alexander Low The Buildings are 2 to 3 storeys in height the lower part being used for preparing and the upper for spinning yarns &c. Cairncross Clepington Works Dundee Directory 1856-7 054 [Situation] On the east side of Hillbank Road These are extensive works carried on within substantial buildings of three and four storeys high in which Flax, Jute and Tow are prepared and spun into Yarns The machinery is propelled by two steam engines of 20 and 80 horse power and the number of persons employed is 450.
