At the South of the Hill of Auchterhouse and about half a mile north of the Kirkton Stands a Stone of about 4 feet in height, which Mr. Lyell the minister of the Ph. [Parish] and who has resided at the Kirkton 16 years, informs me has always been considered to have been used by the Druids as a place of worship, Mr. David Buchan states that within his recollection there was several smaller stones in the vicinity all in an upright position and evidently placed there for the same purpose, Mr. W R Fraser Schoolmaster, States there is a tradition in which this stone is called the Witches Stone, and that any person removing it would fall a victim to Some Supernatural power, this he considers the reason that it has not been removed to build wall to which purpose the others have been devoted.
