The proprietor of Hospitalfield states that the present Mansion Stands on the Site of the Old Hospital, and that of the Small Chapel Connected therewith which was dedicated to St. John the Baptist. He pointed out Some fragments of doorways in the Interior walls of the Mansion which he says are Remains of the old Buildings: but whether of the Chapel or the Hospital, or whether they occupy their Original position he Cannot determine. The exact sites Cannot be ascertained with any nearer Certainty than that they Occupied the Site whereon is Erected the present Mansion.
Mr. David Miller States that "The Hospital & Chapel of St. John the Baptist at Hospitalfield Seem to have been Eroded in the 13th Century, by the Consent of Arbroath the proprietors of the land of Hospitalfield. The Hospital was Connected with the Almory or Almonry and, like it, depended on the Abbey. In August 1485 the Almonry was entitled to two Merks Annually from these lands - the remaining peats being Evidently received by the Hospital. About 1490 the Chapel Called "the Chapel of the Infirmary" was in a ruinous State and no Subsequent Notice of it has been Obtained. The Remains of the Hospital or Infirmary, Such as Carved doors &c are found in the Walls of part of the present Mansion."
