The Name is always used as authorized like many of other Names in this Parish, although in this case there is no other Bog on any of the Estates in Aberlemno. Besides "Bog of Pitkennedy" there is "Craigend of Pitkennedy" & "Muir of Pitkennedy" on Aldbar Estate. In this Parish there are many Names used in the same form which is strictly observed both in writing & speaking, as the "Port of Aldbar", Wood of Kellockshaw", "Mains of Melgund", "Muirside of Melgund", "Carse of Melgund", "Hole of Woodrae" and the "Dam of Tillywhandland". |
Numerous URNS FOUND HERE [Muir of Pitkennedy] | 033 | On the adjoining Muir at the turn of the Road near the School at the Bog of Pitkennedy are two gravel hillocks. In the easternmost one there were found in 1857 the beads and urn mentioned in the attached extract from the work of Mr Jervise - and in the hillock adjoining the road at the place indicated on the plan I am informed by Mr. Chalmers the Proprietor there were found as many as 30 clay urns containing human remains at the time of the making of the Aldbar Road.
