033 A Farm Steading on Turin Estate, the property of P. W. Carnegie of Turin. Custom in this Parish cannot be said to adopt one of the forms of the name as given in the column of "various modes" &c., for it is commonly used as "Hill of Turin" by the people. The best authorities are in favour of North Mains &c., and when it is considered that there are on the same Estate, but in Rescobie Parish, the West Mains, & the "South Mains of Turin", it will be seen that "North" is to be preferred to "Upper", which latter from the Co. [County] Map appears to be oldest.
Besides North or Upper Mains of Turin there is in this Parish "Nether Turin", which in some measure rules Upper as well as the West & South Mains, in Rescobie, rule for North. "Upper or North Mains" is adopted on the Examination Trace.
