firs, belongs to Aberlemmo. The highest part of the Parish is Turin Hill on which there is a Camp said to have been a Roman Camp. The principal Estates are Aldbar. Melgund Turin & Balgavies. There are other small properties. There is a Free Church & a School besides the Parish Ch. [Church] & School, and at the Bog of Pitkennedy and Auldbar Road Station there are other Schools. The principal antiquities are the well known Cross Stones of Aberlemmo. The ruins of Melgund Castle, the Castle of Aldbar and of Flemington besides the remaining arches of the ancient castle of Balgavies are the buildings of antiquity in this Parish. Part of the house of Carsegownie is of an old date, but from the information obtained it does not appear to have been more than a house of the 16th or 17th Century. Stone Coffins & Urns, it is stated in the new Statl. [Statistical] Account, have been found in various parts of the Parish, but the places where the former - the coffins were found have in a few places been found & shewn on the Examination Traces upon authority.
