A Narrow strip of Land which lies between The Scores and the Cliff which overhangs the Witch Lake, the tradition is, those unhappy Creatures were first throw into the Lake to see whether they would float or sink, If they sank they were not witches, but they were drowned, but if they floated they were really witches and burned on the adjoining Hill. [Note] This place is private property and is enclosed and cultivated. Witch Hill extends from the west from a part of the shore opposite "The Step" to the Public Baths.- |
